When we arrived, we tested the water, figured out it was not to cold to surf, and headed off to a rental shop. After getting a wetsuit and buying some flip-flops, I walked to the beach with our group to pick up my surfboard, and figure out how to even use it.
The demonstration that I was given on how to stand up on the board was, truthfully speaking, short and inadequate. The basic run down was this:
1. Lay on the board, arms in push up position by your ribs.
2. Raise your self up, plank position.
3. Adjust your feet, wider than your shoulders, not yet standing up all the way.
4. Stand up.
The instructions may seem simple and easy to follow, but I can assure you, they are anything but. My hope is that, the next time I go, I will have someone right next to me, in the water, giving me instructions and examples as needed. Next time.
We surfed from maybe 9 am to 1pm, after which we got cleaned up and had lunch at a local seafood and shellfish joint. It was really good! Sort of a highlight to my day, really good food :)
After lunch, we all said goodbye and headed back to the city. When I got home, Cindy asked me how it went and if I liked it. I said yes, surfing is like snowboarding, just more dangerous, what with the water coming at you, trying to fill every open orifice on your person. I swear I had enough salt water up my nose, that if I sneezed, you would get finely ground sea salt. Gross, but I’m sure it could have happened. I also found out that I got a nice pink sunburn across my cheeks because, like an idiot, I thought that since it was super cloudy, no sun at all, I would not get sun-burnt. But, like every other occasion where I have thought the same thing, I got sunburnt. It is not very bad mom; don’t worry about. I just won’t have to wear blush for a while! : D
That about sums up my day, everyone! Thank you for reading everyone!
Write to you later : )
Thanks for reading,
